I've been part of this monthly club last year and this year and wanted to mention it in case someone hasn't heard about it. Every Tuesday, you pick up a loaf of bread at Dooby's in Mount Vernon. It's their choice what they bake, and they announce that week's variety on Monday. You also get an accompaniment, usually a spread/jam/compote. They print these neat little cards each week, too: http://i.imgur.com/Ziilnm0.jpg
At approximately $9/week, it is expensive. I justify the cost because Dooby's loaves are some of the best I have ever had, up there with the best I've had in San Francisco and New York. It's very rare for me, e.g., to find a non-sourdough baguette that still has flavor. However, there are some caveats. If you're bread tastes aren't versatile -- say you don't like sourdough or whole wheat -- then this probably isn't for you. Also, the condiments they give don't always pair well with the bread. Sometimes Week 1's condiment actually goes better with Week 2's bread, for example. And every now and then, a condiment just isn't good.
Dooby's listens to feedback, though. They used to give only one small container of the weekly condiment, but now they give two.
