Some time ago, I asked about the prevalence of shops advertising donuts and Chinese food (frequently to go). As the attached link describes, it appears many in the donut business are Cambodian. It seems Dunkin' Donuts is gearing up to invade us (my vague memory of their donuts is confined to a recollection of some Q-shaped product that facilitated dunking). Krispy Kreme is expanding. Winchell's is ramping up to meet the challenge. Stan's is still cranking out peanut butter filled goodies in Westwood (although business is off 20%). Meanwhile, the little mom & pop operations may be on the ropes. So, we should support our local donut makers before there's nothing left but giant chains.
