djerdan burek

allen vella | Apr 17, 2001 09:03 AM

on my way home yesterday, after reading jims burek post again, i stopped by djerdan on 31st ave in astoria to check out the burek. (this was after stopping at astoria meat products for some smoked bacon!) having never tasted them before, i went in and asked for potato burek. after cutting up a fresh from the oven burek, the counterperson said no potato, only meat,so ok we'll try that. trying to watch the carbs anyway, off to new orleans in 10 days, i gotta get in eating shape! i took my burek home and discovered thia wonderful phyllo like pie, stuffed with ground meat (lamb?) that was sublime..buttery, flaky, chewy with tons of flavor...this could be a problem! see i live within blocks of djerdan, not to mention kabab cafe, malagueta and all the other great dining experiances astoria has to offer. anyway check this place out. 3bucks for a large slice of the burek pie, can't wait to taste the potato and cheese variety....i gotta
start riding the bike more.......
