We are planning our first trip to Philly this April, and we are planning out everything in advance--including what places we'll hit for good eats.
I've read all the good advice here about the markets and Chinatown, and we are going to try them out, but we always seek out the non-tourist places, and we like our food good and cheap. We like dives. We like vietnamese restaurants in the upstairs of vietnamese department stores where the menu isn't in English. We like restaurants where those big bulbed, multi-colored Christmas lights hang around outside old buildings with sagging floors. We like restaurants where there isn't even a sign out front.
We're staying in Center City, but we can either drive or take a cab--that is, if they can find it.
We're looking for your suggestions. Have at it.
