We went back to Distrito this weekend and were disappointed to learn they have revamped the menu, and not for the better, in my opinion. Huaraches are gone!!
They also closed Old Town Whiskey (the space is empty right now) and brought those bartenders down into Distrito. The Commodore is still my favorite cocktail in the Valley right now, excellent! (bourbon, lime juice, sweetener in a glass rinsed with mezcal with an orange zest garnish).
The Queso Fundido has changed since the first time I had it right when they opened. Then it was a creamy cheesy dip with bits of duck (tasty but not enough duck meat) and now it is large hunks of duck meat with melted cheese on top (not dippable) but they've added in fennel, which totally overpowers the duck flavor.
Chicken enchiladas came in a sauce that tasted like ordinary BBQ, not pleasing to me.
Guacamole was excellent as always (salty and chunky) and the amuse bouche of mini cornbread muffins with honey, lime zest and salty butter was delicious, I could have had that as a dessert, so good!
The waiter was great, appreciated us as returning locals and he was professional and kept things positive and vague when we asked him why the changes, but my guess is that business has not been that great. He did admit that he was surprised and disappointed with the menu change and that it was done because customers seemed to be confused by the plate sharing tapas style menu.
