very dissapointing meal at New Green Bo

I recently bought the Chowhound book, which raved about New Green Bo. Went there with a friend and ordered some of the recomendations from the book, and they were pretty awful.
Crispy Eel - pure fried sugar. Sickly sweet sticks of god knows what. I guess it was eel (cause the menu said so) but it had no discernable taste.

Aromatic Beef- thick slices of overcooked beef with tons of star anise and ginger, just plain boring.

Shrimp fried rice- bland and boring, shrimp were overcooked, rice was soggy.

Rice cakes with shredded pork and preserved cabbage- Bland and boring. Not offensive, but certainly not good. the pork had zero taste (tasted like it had been boiled for hours or something) the rice cakes had not an ounce of flavor, and the cabbage was not seasoned.

I guess this place either dropped severly in quality, or the people who wrote it up have severe palate disfunction, cause it was nothing to write home about.
