Displaced New Yorker seeks good Arab grocer and Italian Butcher

Elyse Altabet | Dec 19, 200210:19 AM     7

Fellow Chowhounds!
Okay I'm relocating to the Bay area in a few weeks and when I quizzed local friends on good mom and pop groceries they were all stumped.

What I'm looking for are good pita breads- not the dry thick things you get at the supermarket- and maybe some fresh grape leaves and halvah. And for my Italian butcher, I'm want someone who makes their own mozzarella. Mmmm.

I have a bike (and a car, if need be) and will travel.

Thanks!
Elyse

PS Happy to hear recommendations on falafel stands too!
