It's nothing spectacular, but those who enjoy the feeling of finding a hidden restaurant should visit the "Tokyo 7-7 Coffee Shop," right off Main Street in Culver City. It is literally hidden behind the La Ballona restaurant -- I've been working in Culver City for more than a year and never had an idea that there was anything down this tiny alley, until a co-worker went searching for an ATM and found this little gem.
It's been around for about 17 years, and is a slightly dingy but still quite respectable classic American/Japanese coffee shop. It's a wild little place -- right near Sony Pictures Studios, there are autographed head shots on the wall from the cast of "Full House," and "Chips." (Excuse me: "CHiPs").
Don't expect cutting edge or even an authentic noodle shop. Just high quality food at ridiculously low prices. $3.60 for freshly fried Fish & Chips. $3.40 for Gyoza with Rice & Salad. Decent coffee for $.60. Despite the largely American themed menu, the entire staff is (and consistently speaks) Japanese.
And, yes, the food is good. I just had a tuna melt today that was quite decent -- but the prices and the atmostphere make it even better.
