disappointment at Elephant Snack in Koreatown

There are three new Korean restaurants on the west side of Western between Wilshire and Olympic: Elephant Snack, LA Omokari, and Bean Lover's Tofu House. I went to Elephant Snack. It seems like a nice place. They have a nice sign inviting elders to eat $3 meals on weekday afternoons. Unfortunately the food was not very good. They have standard BBQ, noodles, and dumplings, but they also have a half-dozen interesting kinds of porridge. So I ordered dumpling soup and pumpkin porridge. The panchan were standard-issue kimchee and pickles plus some small, rather tough beef cubes. The dumpling soup was okay. I guess I'd eat it again. But the pumpkin porridge was really bad. It had very little flavor, and most of that seemed artificial. It didn't look very good either, kind of translucent. Maybe they have other things that are good, but I guess I'll wait to hear from others before I try it again.
