Disappointing service at Absinthe

A friend and I went to Absinthe for brunch – my first time, second for her. We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation but luckily were seated right away. The restaurant seemed busy I took that as a good sign. I was looking forward to the meal to come.

It took 10 minutes for our server to come and take our drink order – I chalked this up to the restaurant being busy and didn’t think too much about it. But then it took another 15 minutes before he came back and took our food order. I felt like he was being a bit snooty when taking our order – answered some questions we had about the menu in a dismissive manner (I read on the board that some people had a similar experience when they dined there). Our appetizers came and then bread/butter arrived about 5 minutes later. I had the arugula salad with bosc pear, toasted almonds, and warm crottin cheese – not bad, but for $9.00 I thought I would have gotten more in my salad; it seemed like a sparse serving.

Then we had to wait another 30 minutes before our main course arrived. I tried to get his attention to find out where our order was but I never seemed to be able to find him. Someone else ended up bringing our food – I had the Poached eggs with corned-beef hash which actually was really tasty – the meat was tender and flavorful.

The whole time our server never came back to see how our food was, never checked on us to see if we needed another drink, never offered the dessert menu after our plates were cleared – he only reappeared after we asked someone else to get him so we could get our check.

I liked the food but was really disappointed in the service - I don’t know if I’d go back again.
