Help! Disappointing Mexican food!

Jcooper | Nov 8, 200106:01 PM

I foolishly trusted Michael Bauer's review on sfgate.com and went to Casa Aguila on Noriega and 19th a few nights ago. I even took along a just-moved-to-California friend who had never had Mexican food before and was relying on me to introduce it to her. It was a restaurant disaster of the kind that can leave a person depressed for days. I knew it would not go well when the appetizer came out and it included apples and orange cheddar cheese. The rest was too painful to describe.
My question is, can anyone recommend a really good Mexican restaurant (preferably something more than a taqueria) in San Francisco or the mid-peninsula (or even the East Bay) where I could take this friend to redeem myself. I was thinking of going to Rincon Tarasco (?) in Redwood City, if anyone's familiar with that one, but would definitely appreciate a recommendation.
