Found ourselves at Revere Beach late yesterday afternoon, a sweltering hot day, where fried clams at the beach seemed to be just the ticket.
Ordered up a cup of chowder; a clam roll; a roast beef sandwich with bbq sauce.
Was disappointed when they told me they don't have chowder in the summer; I knew this, just forgot. But why?
The clams were pretty much-tasteless gobs of fried dough, really. They might have been better with fresh lemon but they were out of lemon --how does that happen? The roast beef sandwich was ok, I guess, but again, nothing memorable. The best part of the meal was the fries and onion rings. Even they were nothing special but fairly hot and fresh.
I was completely unsatisfied, still relatively hungry, but with that gross feeling in the pit of my stomach that seems to be inevitable after a plate of fried food.
That might just be the last time I eat at Kelly's. I remembered some folks here said they had a pretty good lobster roll; perhaps that's what I should have tried.
