Disappointed in LaMamma

Dax | Mar 17, 200509:16 AM

Stopped in last night around 6:45 to grab a couple of beef empanadas before running some other errands. Upon ordering, the guy walked over to that little rotating pizza heat lamp contraption and started to take out two empanadas. I said "wait, you're joking right?" I told him every time I've been there before (about 6 or 7 times), they've made them from scratch. He told me that for all but beef and chicken, they do make them to order, unless they have run out of the ones they keep under the heat lamp (then they make the beef or chicken ones to order also). (Un)luckily for me, there were about 4-5 sitting under that evil lamp. So I still got two. Don't get me wrong, with their excellent home made hot sauce, they're still pretty tasty. But not nearly as good as when they're made-to-order, with the juices still piping hot and the flaky crust a tiny bit moist with oil, flaking as you bite into it. Last night I had an empanada I could have gotten anywhere. And I was disappointed.

Apologies to people I have recommended go there for these made-to-order morsels of goodness. If I receive the pre-made ones again, I'll likely not return.

With that said, the spinach and cheese ones are always made to order according to the counter guy (who is always there on my visits). Take a look at that little evil rotating thing and if you see empanadas, order something other than beef or chicken.

Yes I just wrote nearly a page about two $1.25 empanadas.
