After all the praise, decided to go to the Independent in Union Sq. on saturday night....And was terribly let down! The onion soup I read raves about was too sweet, with disintegrating cheese, and overall just too heavy. Had the prix fixe of this app. and then seared scallops. Scallops overdone and had a strange metallic aftertaste. White beans and a pesto (?) puree was bland. Another who had the same dish as I agreed, and the other two said their food was "blah," and that the steak tasted too much like the watercress that had been sitting atop it for awhile. My boyfriend claimed the martini he had wasn't too great either. On the bright side, the service was great, and they have good 6$ glasses of wine. This does not save the meal though...What happened here?!
