In August of 2005, my wife and I saw Spamalot. Based on research on this board (and some other info) we went to Tintol before the show for lunch and enjoyed it. We filed it away for the next time we made it up to NY for a show.
Fast forward to today when my wife and I headed up to see A Bronx Tale. We figured we could hit Tintol for lunch again before our show. I even checked their website last night to verify the address and location in relation to the theater.
Imagine our surprise when we walked up to 155 W. 46th St and did not see Tintol (it is now some kind of club). We kind of stood there looking around as if someone had stolen our car (I know it was here a minute ago...).
With about an hour and a half to curtain time and no Chowhound recs to go by, we lapsed into "panicked tourist" mode and ended up at Junior's. Needless to say, it was not the meal we were expecting to have. In fact, I have to say that we were most disappointed by the cheesecake! I had previously ordered one by mail for my wife's birthday, and that one (which sat in my freezer for a few days before it was thawed) was MUCH better than what we had today.
What still boggles my mind is that while Tintol is closed, their website remains open for business. I know that the shelf life for restaurants can be short-term, but you would think that they would pull the plug on the site as well.
So fellow Chowhounds, I need your help to avoid a future disaster like this. We are coming back to NYC to see Young Frankenstein in a few weeks and we need lunch recs in that area. Any ethnicity is fine except Italian. We're from Philly and can get enough good Italian here.
