Dipping sauce for "hot pot"?

Christmas is coming and we'll be doing "hot pot" at home (it's a tradition). My wife can't seem to make the satay-like dipping sauce quite to her satisfaction, and we haven't been able to find any commercial sauces that are comparable to what we get in Shanghai. Any reccos for commercial versions of such a sauce available in SF Asian markets, or does anybody have a good recipe (peanut-based, with plenty of heat)?
