After having first sampled these outstanding Greek confections during Holy week at Aphrodite's here on Franny Lew in Bayside (along with rare, outstanding flounes I might add)I sorta forgot about them for awhile. Today in what can only be described as an all-out eating-spree in my old Astoria nabe (which, by the way, I justified as an attempt to "shock" my body from the plateau of a recent 23 pound weight loss in the hopes of preparing for another 10 pounds down....yeah right...but that's what I told my family who has been so proud of me :) I decided to patronize all of my favorite places and of course I found myself buying pounds and pounds of baked goods at Titan and Artopolis among other haunts. In between orders of tyropita and spanakopita I decided to try a bit of diple. The diple at Titan was decent, albeit a bit soggy and a tad too cinnamon-y and what's billed as Cretan diple at Artopolis was a completley different game- thinner pieces of crunchier fried dough coiled into little fideos of sorts. Yum!
I'm wondering where I can sample the epitome of Diple/Thiples in Queens....
