My beautiful bride and I just returned from Montreal after a sunny, warm and rest full weekend. We hit Au Pied De Cochon and as usual overloaded on all things pork and foie gras, Atwater market for blood sausage and a impromptu beer tasting and at a friend's urging, Vieux Port in the old city for a relaxing and quite fine steak dinner. We have walked past this small but quaint restaurant at least 50 times over the years and dismissed it as another tourist trap. But the place is charming but small, the service is quick, friendly, and seamless, and has the best rack of lamb I have ever tasted. Juicy, buttery, and pink. while still having that very faint tang we associate with New Zealand lamb. My wife's 14 ounce NY strip was done to perfection, and needed nothing but a glass of Pinot Noir to compliment it. All in all a good night and a good find. Dinner for 2, with wine, dessert, coffee, and Port came to $160.00 with tip. I do recommend Restaurant du Vieux Port, and will no doubt be a regular in the future.
