As a frequent visitor to Memphis, I tried Central last night and was disappointed. I had the wet ribs, hot, beans and slaw, their home made potato chips with blue cheese, and a sausage and cheese plate.
I thought the ribs were cooked perfectly, but the sauce was cloying and "distracting". I wish I had tried the dry ribs but often Memphis dry ribs are really covered with rub. The sides were ok, the beans being the best. The sausage and cheese plate was good but not difficult to produce. The chips were good but just chips, Zaps are way better and the blue cheese dipping sauce could have come from a low end salad dressing bottle.
I told the owner I was led there by Chowhound posts. He was unfamilair with Chound. He said his business has been great since "Bobby Flay said my ribs were the best in America".
Boy, I wish I knew that coming in, I would have never darkened the door!
Things are looking up though, it will be The Cozy Corner for lunch before my flight home.
