I've got lots of questions about how one negotiates eating alone. Lunch is always easy, but I've never actually done this for dinner before. For the first time I wont have dining companions on tap while on a work trip, and so Im strangely nervous. I also don't want to avoid sampling the local chow just because I'm alone.
So, do you feel weird, or is it no longer an unusual thing to dine alone? Do you ever get looked at or treated differently? What kinds of places do you pick? Have you ever gotten take-away just because you couldn't face eating alone? Is this gendered at all--women, do you feel like you're waving a flag that says 'please attempt to chat me up'? Do you build up a confidence level over time?
