I've done my research in Gourmet...Southern Accents...Veranda...Fodors....and now CHOWHOUND for tips on where to enjoy GREAT food in Nashville and the surrounding area. My idea of GREAT food and service is "JAKE's" in Manayunk (sp?) PA just outside of Philadelphia: spine-tingling delicious food, freshest ingredients, good presentation, attentive but non-invasive serving staff, welcoming atmosphere with no snooty airs... oh, and reasonably priced food for what you get. (O.K., so it was the extra sauceboat of Valhrona chocolate for the profiteroles that hooked me.) On the other hand, I'm no stranger to the Md.-based "Tastee Diner" (scenario: short-order cooks with cigarette butts dangling out of their mouths..waitresses with BIG HAIR... women in their ultrasuede jackets and pearl chokers sitting next to a booth filled with orange-haired punkers) to enjoy cheap eats with my dad. So all this having been said...my family and I (brother w/signifcant other, sister and husband, mom and dad) will be visiting Nashville over X'mas and have clues but nothing solid about where to dine. Arthur's? F. Scott's? Belle Meade Brasserie? Loveless for breakfast? Mere Bulles? Opryland????? We'll have a car and can travel anywhere to the burbs or nether regions. Also, anyone have any hints on holiday-specific activities taking place in Nashville and surrounding area? Everyone -- even the tourist office -- tells me to focus my time and energy on Opryland and its offerings....surely there is life beyond Opryland??? Happy Holidays Everyone!!!!!!!
