Diner williamsburg - downhill?

mrakhef | May 28, 2004 01:46 PM

I know people on here recommend Diner in Wsmbrg a lot, but does anyone else think it's gone downhill in the past six months? New chef, maybe? My boyfriend and I have been regulars at Diner for years now...always loved it for the proximity to our house, but mostly because the food was great (esp for the neighborhood). The last ten or so times I've eaten there, I've been really disappointed- food tasting bland and poor service. The last visit made me feel like I never want to go back. I had a fennel and pecorino salad that tasted like cardboard, a soft shell crab that was soaked in a sauce that tasted like a mix of sour cream potato chips and pasta roni sauce package. They forgot one of our side orders completely, serving it to us after we'd finished with everything else. I could maybe forgive some of this...but considering that each entree was at least $18, I expect a little bit more. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
