I had heard good things about this restaurant, but never had cause to get a meal there. DAT changed everything so I had lunch there earlier today.
As advertised, the Prix Fixe was $19.95. The restaurant is housed on the 3rd floor of the Pan-Pacific hotel, a very nice, however sterile/corporate hotel. From the dining room you can see thru the blinds to Post street.
Upon arrival we had to wait for a few minutes as they did not have a dedicated maitre'd. Our server, however, once she found us, was extremely competent and very nice.
First course was an ample salad, composed mainly of butter lettuce. They did not skimp on the quantity and the presentation was beautiful. It was lightly dressed with some sort of creamy dressing, and spiked with pomegranate seeds, chunks of blue cheese, fresh mandarin orange sections and walnuts. It tasted as good as it looked.
Second course was Skate Wing with Leeks and Artichokes. I have never had the pleasure of eating SW, so I figured this was as good an opportunity as any to give it a shot, and I am glad that I did. The SW was lightly dusted in flour and sauteed in a lemon/butter sauce which was served on the plate. The SW was extremely fresh and delicate-tasting, kind of feathery almost. It was as good as a lot of sole that you will get. It was perched atop a mound of sauteed leeks and artichokes that were tasty but a shade bland.
Third course was a competent creme brulee, my only complaint being that there could have been more caramelized sugar coating on it. Otherwise, consistency and taste were excellent.
Service, overall, was excellent, competent but unrushed. Water levels always seemed to be taken care of, plates removed quickly.
The Pacific is perhaps not where I would go for a romantic dinner, but for a small group or a business lunch/dinner it is an excellent choice that I'd recommend.
