Is it just me or does it seem the Dine Out L.A. pickins are a bit slimmer this year? We hadn't been to Celestino for a long time. I've always liked the service there but husband finds the food overly rich. We decided to give it a whirl last night and although we weren't thrilled by the choices on the special menu--and it would have cost the same, or less in many cases, to order from the regular menu, we went with the Dine Out menu (so we could feel like good citizens) and a good bottle of Chianti (just 'cause). I had a nice eggplant tian to start and himself some really delicious fresh mozzarella. The entrees were (I think) some sort of pasta with shrimp and chicken milanese. We both went with the milanese which was a very simple pounded, breaded chicken breast served with a dainty portions of broccoli, carrots and fennel. Simple. Satisfying. Not earth shattering. Dessert was a nice panna cotta with berries. The service was almost over-the-top warm and friendly but I'm a sucker for that stuff and like being made to feel like a special guest, further elaboration upon which I will save for a therapist...So it was a pleasant simple, weeknight meal. I gave my husband half of my chicken breast or he would have left the table hungry. Any other Dine Out L.A. experiences worth noting?
