When we moved here three years ago from Singapore we knew we would miss our favorite family Sunday pastime which was a DimSum lunch. You can imagine how pleasantly surprised we were when we happened upon the China Pearl Restaurant in Quincy (KanMan Plaza). Real Dim Sum in Asia is not what it was 20 or 30 years ago due to the high cost of preparation and serving (the famous ladies wheeling the steam carts to your table with all the goodies for example). The old Hong Kong Central Dim Sum houses have long closed and I wonder if the City Hall Restaurant still serves Dim Sum there anymore. We couldn't believe we were in Boston area when we first went to China Pearl - - real DIMSUM! Steam carts with all the favorite dishes - chicken feet and all! Everything cooked and served in true Cantonese style. The staff and most clientele are Chinese (I suspect it is a lunch stop for Chinese bus tours which helps keep it authentic). We haven't tried the main branch in Chinatown as yet but if you are looking for an authentic DimSum experience I would strongly recommend giving this a try. They also serve from the menu and have a full dinner service as well.
