Hit a Persian restaurant ("Bha! Bha!") down in Florida last week where they serve this amazingly delicious appetizer we have been dreaming about since we first experienced it several years ago.
From what I can gather on Google, haleem bademjune (I think there are various spellings) is typically served as an entree, and with meat. However, this version was only an appetizer and had no meat whatsoever.
Here's how our esteemed dish was described in a recent(?) James Beard Foundation event description for the Persian New Year at Bha! Bha!:
"Haleem Bademjune: Sautéed Eggplant Blended with Lentils and Aromatics on Barbari Bread Croutons, Garnished with Sour Cream, Caramelized Garlic, Onions, Walnuts, and Minted Oil."
Any help fellow CHs can provide would take me a long way in my wife's book (after I make it as a surprise, of course).
