Outstanding on many levels, but not for a quick lunch. Obviously they cook the food to order because it takes about 15-20 minutes to get it, even though I ordered the special.
The service is friendly and helpful. I dont blame them for the length of time the food took, as everybody was waiting. They almost seemed a little embarrassed by the wait. I was alone, so they were particularly attentive, but I could see they were very attentive to the other tables, too.
The wait was worth it.
The chicken curry special came with a scoop of brown rice with beans that was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I started my meal with a taste of the rice and it had such a depth of flavor that I kept eating it despite the other stuff on the plate.
The chicken curry itself was also outstanding. As expected by the wait, it was piping hot, as was the rest of the dish. The meat was tender, and had obviously been fussed-over as there was not a speck of bone or gristle. It had potatoes, lots of chunks of chicken and a delicious creamy curry sauce.
The greens were also cooked to perfection. They were tender, but still firm and not mushy. They were a little salty for my taste, but not so much that I couldnt wait to devour them. They bite of the greens was a perfect accompaniment to the creaminess of the curry and the sweetness of the plantains.
And finally, the plantains were hot and good. Like the rest of the dish, they were perfectly cooked and added a sweetness that balanced-out the dish.
Another interesting and unusual thing I found here: the menu has a whole page devoted to healthy eating, including the food pyramid and steps to take to be healthier. It also goes into all the things that can happen if you dont eat healthy: stroke, diabetes, etc. I wonder why more restaurants dont do this.
The chicken curry special was $9, a bargain in my book.
This was a totally unexpected find. I frankly didnt know what to expect, but I was impressed, and I will definitely be back.
