Had dinner at Vela in Wellesley. The place was practically empty, which is a shame because the food is surprisingly good. I don't know if the location is hexed or what. The menu changed a couple of months ago and the items we have tried are excellent- like the crispy chicken livers with marsala over polenta appetizer and the rabbit confit appetizer. Last night I had the duck entree, which was one of the best I have had. The breast was just pink- cooked perfectly and very tender, sliced. A confit leg that was falling apart as it should be. On one side was a cranberry sauce that was delicious and the confit was served over a beautiful array of veggies- tiny peas, roasted carrot and parsnips julienne, asparagus spears, broccolli rabe, baby red potatoes, cherry tomatoes.
Appetizers- a different but very nice bibb salad with raisins and pistachios, and DC had calamari in a putanesca sauce. A very nice lemon tart with fresh berries for dessert.
Service is very attentive. Although the space is subterranean, it is pleasant and peaceful.
Give it a try.
