Delicate etiquette

Last night, in a newish and casual restaurant (not a bar, club, dive, etc.) in Manhattan, I found myself in direct line of sight of another patron's rear cleavage. (Does anyone doubt that this was unappetizing?) Fortunately the problem resolved itself when the man sat up straight and his T-shirt fell to the needed length, where it remained. But this sparked a discussion at our table of whether a restaurant should discreetly let a patron know he might want to pull up his pants or whether you have to stop inappropriate dress at the door or forever lump it. This wardrobe malfunction appeared only when the man sat down and leaned forward and could not have been predicted at the door. What do you all think?
