Deep frying spot prawn heads

I am heading to the island tomorrow hoping for a good catch of spot prawns and I am packing my deep fryer for the heads...

Does anyone have had success frying those sharp spiky things without cutting their mouths open while eating them?

I am googling and can't find a definite answer but from previous experience those shells are way too hard to get crunchy enough to eat safely...what do I do wrong?
