I didn't catch the story myself, but several people have been telling me about a piece on NPR a couple of days ago about deep-fried Twinkies at the California State Fair and deep-fried candybars at the Illinois State Fair. I heard last year about deep-fried Oreos at some mid-western fair and for years I've been intrigued at the idea someone told me about - that in Glasgow, the late-night post-pub-crawl snack is deep-fried Mars bars. (If if isn't true, please don't tell me - the world is a brighter, better place if such a snack is actually on the up-and-up).
What kind of batter would you use to coat these things. Also - anything else that you've heard of that you wouldn't expect to be fried that you've actually had?
Thinking of trying some of these out for an article.
