Well, Chowhound has done it again--itntroduced me to two great places I would have otherwise entirly overlooked. I needed to find a place for 4 of us to go for a drink then dinner prior to a show at Scullers last night.
As always, CH came through with all your great write ups on Deep Ellum and Jasmine Bistro. We loved them both! Deep Ellum offered great mixology with friendly staf, patrons and a good vibe. It was hard to leave--but the kind folks at Jasmine had a table for us, so off we went.
The owner and son lived up to their reputed warm reputations, service was gracious and knowledgable, and the food was delicious.
Two of us got the lamb special with fig and pears--so good! One had the sea bass special(sustainable from Bermuda vs. otherwise, as the owner pointed out) and another had the chicken kebob. We loved them all! Shared the eggplant app to start (another CH suggested winner).
All in all a charming and delicious pick. I will say, my companions were initally reluctanct to gamble a rare dinner out together on an (heretofore to them) unknown spot with such a varied (could read as scattered) menu--"French, Hungarian, Middle Eastern, with a touch of Persian--how can they do all that well?" But after reading several CH reviews aloud to them, Jasmine won out and made us all feel like winners because of it. We toddled of to Scullers very contentedly!
Thanks for another terrific rec (two, in fact!).
