Went to Dedo last night for barfood and it was a very good experience. As we were in the South End we were going to go to Deluxe. However, it was slammed so we wandered over behind the Park Plaza keeping my fingers crossed that I could remember where Dedo was. It actually is easy to spot if you know where to look for it. I love Gargoyle's in Davis Square, and this was my second time at Dedo's so I had pretty high expectations -- which were met.
The bar was quiet, maybe 8 or so people, a marked difference from Dedo. I think people just don't know about it yet so it is still accessible. Even though the people at the bar appeared to be strangers to each other, they were having a bar-wide conversation that was kindof fun to watch.
We ordered the "Pick Plate" which is a plate of various dippy things, like cut up grapes, chunky hummus, muffalatta, a fancy bacon type stuff, and large capers (the ones with a tail), as well as two crouton things to eat the dips with. My main complaint with this was that two croutons are not enough to pick up all the dips. It seems like it should come with more bread. $13
We both wanted to get the quesadillas and they were remarkably good. ($9) Some kind of special beef, with queso fresco, fresh tasting tortiallas and a side salad of cilantro and cheese. All of it was really delicious -- and I'm fussy about Mexican. Not a huge serving but plenty with the appetizer.
We got a decent bottle of Chilean merlot and the waitress/bartender came around often and kept our glasses full and made sure we were happy. Desserts looked interesting but we weren't hungry for them.
So for $55 before tip and including the bottle, it was a pretty pleasant dinner experience! It's a great addition to the theater district/South End.
