Decent meal at Mono in JLS

Cheesy Oysters | May 27, 200812:47 PM

Well after asking for requests from this board, we ended up at Mono on Saturday night. When we drove up, I was surprised to find it was in the old Cucko's Nest location on 4th Street in the Jack London Square area. We had a 7 PM reservation and were seated without a wait. It's a small place and a few tables were already occupied. We had apps and a cocktail at our house, so we only had dinner and dessert at the restaurant. I stuck with the seared scalloped and pancetta mashed potatoes that I spied off the online menu. It was served with a lemon mint pesto that was quite tasty. The dish was garnished with some nicely dressed greens. It was very good. The scallops were nicely cooked. I didn't taste the pancetta in the mashed potatoes but it was still a great combo. Two of us had the scallops. Another had the lemon risotto and grilled prawns. The risotto was delicious -- creamy with a hint of lemon. The last dish was a perfectly cooked ribeye with the pancetta mashed potatoes, asparagus and some type of reduction.

We shared a bottle of Malbec that managed to go well with all the entrees.

For dessert, we got a creme brulee served with delicious cookies and a chocolate fondant that was perfect for the chocolate lovers. The fondant was more like a souffle/brownie. I can't remember what else was with it but we gobbled it up. Desserts were $6 and that seemed like a bargain. Entrees were $20 to $23. Service was good and the owner came by to check in. We all thought it was very good.

Will we go back? Well there are so many new and good restaurants that I'm not sure we would get there any time soon, but we were all very happy with our meal.
