DOD (Dear Old Dad) moved to Florida last year and we have been making trips evry couple of months to see him and looking for good chow. Anyway, these places are probably well known to locals but I figured I would reprise them since we just went:
Azeteca, I-595 & Pine Island Road, kind of tex/cal mex place. I liked it, had the tortilla soup, cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. I lived in Texas so I'm used to that kind of mex but it worked for me at some level...
Inverrary Diner, I think on University near Commercial. Good Jewish deli food...I'm a sucker for good matzo ball soup. Their matzo balls are the size of a tennis ball and as light as can be, very good. Good grilled reuben too.
Houston's, on the intercoastal at Atlantic - right on Atlantic at the drawbridge. The restaurant has outdoor seating on the intercoastal, cieling fans, stays cool by the water and the outside is much quieter than the inside. The grilled artichokes are excellent. They come with a mayo based sauce and herbs. Good seared tuna salad. Reasonable wine prices. We had the Sangiovese which was a little "young" but tasty.
I'll report back on the next trip.
