December 2018 Cookbook of the Month: BREAD TOAST CRUMBS by Alexandra Stafford

islandmermaid | Dec 1, 201809:24 AM     1

A warm welcome to our December 2018 Cookbook of the Month, BREAD TOAST CRUMBS: RECIPES FOR NO-KNEAD LOAVES & MEALS TO SAVOR EVERY SLICE by Alexandra Stafford with Liza Lowery. This month we are also offering a companion thread to explore recipes from Alexandra Stafford's blog, Alexandra's Kitchen!

This is our master thread for the book. While we're cooking and baking together this month, this thread will be a place for us to share thoughts and inspiration, ask questions, chat about ingredients, consider our favorites from the book, and form conclusions as we wrap up the month.

Please use the threads below to report on recipes:

***IMPORTANT NOTE: I definitely recommend that any newcomer to the book start by reading the introduction and "Loaf to Crumb" chapter, as the detailed instructions on technique, ingredients, and equipment are incredibly helpful when baking any of the breads in the book. I would also suggest taking a look at the FAQ beginning on page 246 for tips on doubling or halving the recipes, baking in a preheated Dutch oven, trying "artisan" adaptations of the bread, using active dry yeast instead of instant, and more. Troubleshooting on page 248 is quite handy, too. Please use this master thread to add comments or questions regarding any of these chapters (Introduction, Loaf to Crumb, FAQ, Troubleshooting).

Finally, I would like to extend a special welcome to anyone new to Cookbook of the Month (COTM) or returning after a break. This is an inclusive community for home cooks of all levels, even if you're brand new to cooking and baking! We learn a lot as we cook together, and we are thrilled when newcomers join us for the camaraderie and shared learning of COTM. If you're new, all you have to do is try a recipe from the book or blog and post your report on the corresponding thread, with a photo if you wish. Over the past few months, several posters who are brand new to COTM have joined us, and it's such a pleasure to expand our community. Please keep participating and sharing such fantastic reports! Happy cooking and baking to all!
