Hi Chicago Chowhounds,
I'm putting my faith in this group. I can clearly see, after perusing only a week worth of posts, that you folks are trusty counselors. I couldn't quite find a post that supplied what we're looking for, though.
My husband and I are eager for our very first visit to Chicago. It's unbelievable, but true. Next weekend, we'll have four days to chow to our hearts' content. We're especially keen on ethnic food that may be harder to get here in DC. Most notably, Mexican and good Asian (anything but Korean!). We're open to any outstanding place of almost any ethnicity, but we're not big pork or beef eaters, which I realize rules out a lot of what Chicago's been traditionally known for.
We've gotten a cheap package hotel deal, so we're staying at the Congress Plaza hotel in the South Loop at S. Michigan (and Harrison, I think). Eateries close to the hotel would be great, but if we'll travel from DC to Chicago for good chow, you know we'll travel across town. We'll be relying on public transport, though, so accessible places are a must. We're not crazy about taking cabs.
OK, Chicago chowhounds, show me what you've got! Thanks so much for your efforts.
