So besides the less than exciting Fiore bakery in JP (which I really want to like and has nice people working there), I was finally able to try 2nd St. Cafe by Lechmere. I'm afraid that wasn't too thrilling altho again, the owner and everyone there seemed very nice, esp. if you're a regular. Got a chicken and mozzarella on grilled light rye which was fine but nothing too memorable and kinda expensive at $6.95, altho I guess that's what many sandwiches go for these days. No pickle or chips or anything with it. Their choc. chip cookie was big but only okay.
Since Sorella's in JP was crowded Fri. morning, I hit the Forest Hills Diner for a grilled cheese w/ bacon (into grilled sandiwiches lately). It was very very basic at $3.45. Lunch on the way back from VT was at Cheddar's by Alewife who people here have said have a great steak & cheese. A small was a good size at $5.00 but I didn't notice anything better than all the other places. Again, nice folks working there. I think my sister-in-law's olive/anchovie spread and my maple walnut cream pie were as good as anything I've eaten recently.
