DAT: Plumpjack

Lisa and I went to Plumpjack for lunch last Thursday. At 1:00 the tables were about half full.

DAT menu was:
App: cream of wild mushroom soup with truffle oil or two tuna tartare cones with asian pear
Entree: wild mushroom risotto or something that ended up being a grilled chicken breast (pounded first) under a bed of greens, parmesan, walnuts and pomegranate
Dessert: lemon souffle with raspberry sauce or pumpkin patch.

I had never been to Plumpjack before, and judging from the regular menu, the DAT menu was a nice value. We ended up getting all six options, and really enjoyed the meal.

The two mushroom dishes were great, very mushroomy, but rich and satisfying. I'm not big on raw tuna, but I enjoy it now and again. These cones were very similar to what I had as an amuse at French Laundry, but I really liked the pairing of the tuna with cubes of asian pear and a hint of wasabi--the flavors really melded together well. The salad was pretty straightforward, but satisfying.

Desserts were both killer. The souffle (meyer lemon maybe?) was light, but tart and sweet and matched well with the raspberry. The pumpkin was a flan (which was sort of a crust-less pie) and a dense pumpkin cake with vanilla bean ice cream. Good sized portions as well.
