We had dinner inside before the Eddie Izzard show at the Flynn a few weeks back. We made reservations for 5:45 and showed up at 6 (because I thought the reservations were for 6 for some reason). The dining room is small and it was empty when we arrived. There's a deck upstairs and seating out on the side walk, and both of those were apparently hopping. :) I was glad to be indoors, though. We went with another couple as we were all celebrating our birthdays, which are all within several weeks of each other through July and August.

My husband has wiener schnitzel, I had jager schnitzel, other person 1 (OP1) had currywurst, and OP2 had the Ticino Sandwich. We shared a ham and cheese pretzel to start.

The food was outstanding. EVERYthing was perfectly cooked. The flavors were intense and well balanced. I didn't taste the Ticino Sandwich but I tried some of my husband's cheese spätzel that came with his schnitzel and it was lovely, too. I tasted a bit of the curry sauce on the currywurst and it was great. I might have to get the currywurst next time. The pretzel was fluffy inside and crusty outside without too much salt. Just great all around.

But the sauce/gravy on my jager schnitzel was sooo wonderful. Rich and intensely beefy flavored with a great mouthfeel. The schnitzel was fried crisp and it stayed crisp. It wasn't over breaded, either. I got grilled asparagus as my side and they were lovely young asparagus and soooo gooooood. :)

Our friends ordered a couple of cocktails, as well. I think the total for the four of us (that includes uhm, I think 3 cocktails) was around $140 before tip.

The waiter was attentive without hovering. He stayed behind the bar which wasn't very far away, and managed to not talk with the other staff about annoying things in a loud voice. He paid attention to our table and cleared promptly but without pushing at all. Good service for downtown in a college town on a Friday night. :)

I want some more jager schnitzel now. :)
