Darband Persian Restaurant, Tarzana

Kathy Koupai | May 1, 2004 10:08 PM

I went to Darband Persian Grill in Tarzana today for the first time with the fam. Excellent food all around, from the appetizers (Shirazi salad, mast-o-mouseer, khashk-e-bademjaan), to the main dishes (kabobs of all kind, including lamb, chicken, koobideh, etc.; alballoo polo-- cherry rice, sabzi polo mahi-- fried fish and vegetable rice, and much, much more). I once said to avoid the rice and khoresht dishes in general at Persian restaurants, but Darband has made me change my mind. To top it off, the decor is beautiful (combo of modern and traditional), and the prices are great. For a party of five (with several non-alcoholic drinks, main dishes for all, and several appetizers), it came to about $20 per person plus tip; *and* we had plenty of leftovers to take home. They also have live Persian music on some nights. Check it out if you like Persian food and are near Ventura Blvd. and Tampa Ave. (exit 101 FWY at Tampa).
