Lately I have received a few e-mails about the food of Chengdu, China (I subscribe to several travel blogs). Today's post mentioned dan dan noodles as being a popular street food. While hubbie didn't quite cry out, "the game's afoot," he did immediately bundle us into the car for a trip to Gourmet Kingdom (Carrboro). Neither of us had had dan dan before, and were pretty disappointed with our lunch.
Overly sweet and bland with almost no heat, it reminded me of mediocre food court Chinese. Not our usual experience at G.K. My question--do we give up on dan dan noodles or is there a place we should try for a more satisfying experience?
