D & N Dairy Bar - Frozen Custard in Clawson, MI

mdg | Jul 25, 201008:26 PM     4

Another Detroit area treat that we can't get with decent quality in the San Francisco Bay Area is frozen custard! Fortunately on this trip we have hit a dynamic duo of custards. Kopp's in Milwaukee was excellent, but my heart stlll goes to my hometown favorite - the D & N Dairy Bar on Rochester Road in Clawson, just north of 14 Mile. A small twist cone brought back lots of great summer memories, and an appreciation that once again my taste memory was not just nostalgia - this is indeed really awesome, and far better than what we can get where we live.

I haven't seem D & N get much notice here, but it seems a quintessential Chowhound place - a small little shack that does a regional specialty extremely well. I've never had anything but the frozen custard here and don't intend to change that. Regardless of how good anything else is, D & N can stand by its custard alone.
