D & N Dairy Bar - Frozen Custard in Clawson, MI

Another Detroit area treat that we can't get with decent quality in the San Francisco Bay Area is frozen custard! Fortunately on this trip we have hit a dynamic duo of custards. Kopp's in Milwaukee was excellent, but my heart stlll goes to my hometown favorite - the D & N Dairy Bar on Rochester Road in Clawson, just north of 14 Mile. A small twist cone brought back lots of great summer memories, and an appreciation that once again my taste memory was not just nostalgia - this is indeed really awesome, and far better than what we can get where we live.

I haven't seem D & N get much notice here, but it seems a quintessential Chowhound place - a small little shack that does a regional specialty extremely well. I've never had anything but the frozen custard here and don't intend to change that. Regardless of how good anything else is, D & N can stand by its custard alone.
