The Daily Table - prepared meals from salvaged ingredients

greygarious | Mar 9, 201510:48 AM

After a two-year effort to get approvals, leases, etc., this endeavor, from former Trader Joe's executive Doug Rauch, will open in April. Rauch was interviewed today in the last half hour of Boston Public Radio. They are partnering with the Codman Square Health Center to have cooking classes for children.

The Daily Table will be a store that will sell nutritious, ready-to-eat takeout meals at lower prices than supermarkets and fast food venues. It will be at 450 Washington Street, corner of Park, in Dorchester, in the same building as Healthworks.

Rauch mentioned that when he went to the Chelsea Produce Market to explain what Daily Table will do and to ask them to donate when they have food they can't sell, they asked if he'd brought a truck with him, because they were about to throw out 7 THOUSAND pounds of mangoes they couldn't sell because they were almost ripe. Sounds like Rauch and his staff will not have problems sourcing ingredients.
