Monday through Saturday Anna Bakery offers a discount on a different pastry item each day. On Wednesdays, it's egg custard tarts for 3/$1.25. On Saturdays, the light and eggy sponge cakes are 3/$1.25. I've tried the garlic buns on special for 3/$1, but didn't care for them.
When I stopped by this Saturday morning, there were only two sponge cakes available with more coming out at noon. I asked if I could buy the two on hand at discount, but the counter lady wouldn't hear of it and insisted on the usual price of 60¢ each. I had a sponge cake-less Saturday.
