Cut did not live up to expectations

TailbackU | Jul 6, 200809:28 PM     5

so for some time now, I have been reading about how fantastic Wolfgang Puck's Cut steakhouse is. Over the weekend, gf and I decided to go celebrate my 30th bday dinner there. We arrived with 8pm reservations that we made a month ago and the hostess told us that we were no where in the system. This definitely did not set the tone well for the night, but no worries....after about a 20 min wait, we were seated. There were actually quite a bit of empty tables.

Now to the food. I started my meal with the bone marrow flan, as so many people here have raved about it. This dish definitely delivered in all aspects. The bone marrow was not as rich as expected and was very tasty to the last bite. The toast that comes with it was also cooked to the perfect texture. Just the right amount of crunch w/o it being too hard like a crouton. The gf had the blue crab and shrimp cocktail. This was also fantastic. If anything, it had slightly a little too much hint of mayo in the dressing but still very good regardless.

Now for the main attraction...the steaks. I always tend to go for the bone-in ribeye whenever I'm at a prime steakhouse. Gf got the bone-in filet. It's clear that the kitchen let the steaks "sit" for far too long, because by the time it was on our table, the steaks were at room temperature. The steaks were honestly nothing special and I felt that the meat and flavors at Mastros are far superior to those at Cut. The two side dishes that we ordered also did not deliver. The creamed spinach was bland and the artichokes just didn't have a good flavor or texture.

Total bill came out to $300 after tip including a $35 corkage fee. For that price, I will take my money to Mastros and save myself $100.
