It’s a new year and the chow tour of the Bay Area’s top South Asian restaurants continues. All chowhounds are welcome to join the exploration of these cuisines.

Sunday, Jan. 18, 6:00pm (note time change) – Spicy Bite (Cortland and Mission streets, San Francisco)

Co-hosts, Janet Kumar and “Windy”, invite you to join them for dinner at one of the newest hot spots on the local curry scene. Gobi Manchurian, Hakka noodle soup, peshwari naan, and other unique dishes also beckon.

Estimated cost is $15 per person, plus beverages. Email Windy, itswindy(at)pacbell(dot)net to reserve your place.

Sunday, January 25, 1:00pm and
Saturday, January 30, 1:00pm - Near East Bay locations

Avid curry hounds, Alexandra Singer and Kathleen Mikulis, will be your guides to their favorite curry discoveries in the Near East Bay (aka Oakland, Berkeley and Albany). The luncheon locations will be revealed in advance only to the attendees.

There are several more venues – Alhamra, Nawab, Udupi Palace, Punjab Kebab House, Chaat Café, Kabana, Saravana Bhavan, Mughal (formerly Bar B Q Tonite), etc. – that we’re interested in adding to the chowdown series. We’re in need of hosts to help put these together. If you’d like to volunteer to organize an outing to one of these restaurants or another favorite, please contact Melanie Wong,, to schedule a slot on the curry-diving calendar.
