Cupcakes at Downtown Atlantic

Holy heck. I've been holding off posting about their cupcakes because I'm selfishly worried that they'll have run out by the time I get there. And I've been hitting their bakery with alarming regularity.

They make all their baked goods right there - wonderful cakes, cheesecakes, tarts and cookies. But it's the cupcakes that really have me swooning. (Apparently others are swooning as well because on a few occasions when I've run over there, I've been beaten to the punch and forced to buy a pastry instead. Darn. Banana chocolate cream tart anyone?

The cupcakes have that same Krispy Kreme "I could eat a dozen in one sitting" quality. The cake is lighter than air and the frosting is pure buttercream yet doesn't sit in your stomach like a chunk of lard infested cheapo bakery dreck. In fact, I sent a dozen cupcakes up to my sister-in-law in Massachusetts and she served them the next day and had the same reaction. Except it was more like "Oh my God. Those were Wicked Good. Kinda like those Krispy Kreme donuts". They come in either vanilla or chocolate cake with vanilla or chocolate icing, topped in sprinkles or coconut. That's it. So simple. So divine. So go get some. But leave one for me please.
