cupcake recap

In case anyone still cares about cupcakes, I tasted them from a number of places in the last few weeks. I have to admit I'm partial to unusual flavors, so at most places I tried the fruit and red velvet flavors instead of the chocolate. None of them were completely perfect for my taste, but YMMV. Here's a few of my findings, sort of in order of preference.
Toast: These are like homemade, which is a good thing to me. Not beautiful, but very satisfying. Great lemon frosting.
Auntie Em's: These are the sumo wrestlers of the cupcake world -- dense, huge, and pretty tasty. Coconut was nice, although not intensely coconutty like I remember Clementine's being.
Lena's: delicate, pretty, ambitious selection of flavors with tasty fruit fillings. But I don't like their fancy buttercream frosting, which melts quickly and tastes too greasy.
Joan's on Third: Good bittersweet chocolate frosting. Cake texture is too light.
Sprinkles: Cute shop, great concept, but frosting is cloyingly sweet.
