Crustacean for Dine-Out: mediocre food, terrible service

Nicole | Aug 21, 2005 09:22 PM

I went to Crustacean for lunch for the Pellegrino Dine-Out promotion last week, and was very disappointed by the experience.

Service summary:
We were seated promptly, but then waited at least 20 minutes to get any service at all. Meaning, we didn't even have water! This was the first of many long waits...we waited way too long between each course, with the longest wait being between dessert and getting the check...once again, it took a great deal of effort to flag down our server. I understand that the kitchen may be delayed, but we experienced the longest delays at the beginning and end of the meal, when we weren't even waiting for food. It was completely a matter of our server ignoring us, perhaps because we were ordering the cheaper dine out special. All in all, lunch took 2 hours.

Food summary:
I had the crispy shrimp mousse rolls...they were okay, but nothing special. I knew they would be fried, but they were particularly oily. My friend had the veggie rice paper roll, and also declared it okay but boring. For my entree, I had the broiled snapper. While I could excuse the shrimp rolls for being oily, since I knew they would be fried, the snapper was unexpectedly oily and heavy. And the flavor was a little odd...between the oily tecture and weird flavor, I couldn't finish it. My friend had the pear salad and once again reported it was okay, but nothing special. We did enjoy the banana fritter and sorbet for dessert. But overall, I was genuinely suprised by the relatively poor quality of food.

I'm going to Michael's for dine-out lunch on Monday...it was fabulous last year, and I am not taking any more dine-out chances this year!
